I’m Katherine, and I have been working as a professional proofreader and copy editor for over 20 years.
Trading as “Decorus Lacuna”, I provide proofreading and copy editing services* to students and academics. I read theses, dissertations, essays, and research proposals – correcting errors in the text, improving the prose style, and writing notes on any recurring issues to help the client with their future writing.
While I work primarily with students, I also have regular clients who are researchers and lecturers, as well as an ongoing contract with the University of Derby Online to copy edit teaching materials.
Working on academic texts is a genuine pleasure for me, with every project giving the opportunity to learn something new. I also get real satisfaction from helping students during these critical moments in their academic careers, ensuring their work is polished and ready for submission.
“I’ve been working on my master’s thesis for many weeks now and have gone through ups and downs. Writing the thesis in parallel to my normal job certainly makes it even more nerve-wracking! I haven’t got any support so far, so it was all the nicer to see how much work you put into editing my thesis. To be honest, it really moved me. I am really very grateful to you. You really did a wonderful job and I will always be grateful to you.”
“Katherine, I’m writing to say how delighted I am with your work. I was extremely anxious about the dissertation before even pursuing the MSc and at times I have just thought about giving up and not even submitting this year, but thanks to your work and feedback, I feel a lot more confident with my submission.”
